Principal's Welcome

Dear Sarah Banks Middle School Students and Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Sarah Banks Middle School. I look forward to working with staff, students, and families to continue the tradition of excellence in education that Sarah Banks Middle School has been providing since 1998.

I am a product of the Walled Lake Consolidated School District, attending Loon Lake Elementary, Walled Lake (Geisler) Middle School, and Walled Lake Western. I went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Madonna University, and a K-12 Educational Administration degree from Michigan State University. I taught mathematics in Huron Valley Schools before transitioning to leadership roles within the same district. I served as dean of students and assistant principal at Milford High School before returning to WLCSD. In the fall of 2015, I joined the Walled Lake Central team, serving as assistant principal.

I look forward to collaborating with the Sarah Banks community and staff to ensure that we continue to provide a high-quality educational experience for all of our students. The academic and social-emotional learning of our students are among my top priorities. I believe in providing opportunities for students to challenge themselves, develop as learners, try new things, and form lasting relationships with peers and staff. I am committed to honoring the history of Sarah Banks Middle School and fully embrace the building mission of “providing a warm, friendly environment, where students feel supported and secure.” At the same time, I hope to bring new ideas to the Banks community, foster new partnerships, and impact student learning in new ways.

The theme at Sarah Banks Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year is The Age of Excellence.  Excellence is one of the five pillars that we commit to each day.  Our five pillars represent what we as a staff and student body believe in and strive toward: Pride, Respect, Tolerance, Determination, and Excellence.  I am certain that this will be an excellent year and I look forward to serving this learning community.

Sincerely,

Michelle Kalhorn
