Welcome to the Clifford H. Smart Middle School
The mission of the Clifford H. Smart Middle School community is to provide a nurturing environment which fosters high self-esteem and positive development of every individual's behaviors, attitudes, knowledge and well-being so that each may live a productive, satisfying life as a responsible member of our changing society.
Clifford H. Smart Middle School serves over 1000 students in grades 6th through 8th. Principal Brian Kaplan and Assistant Principal Dan Holland work with over 75 faculty and staff to deliver a curriculum and extracurricular program that encompass high standards and values.
Improving writing achievement is one of our school goals.
We believe that writing enhances the learning process of any subject at any level. To help encourage students to think and write, we have adopted a model for a writing-to-learn/ writing-across-the-curriculum program based upon five types of writing assignments.
Read the Top 10 Countdown article which list ten reasons why students should be encouraged to write at home or the article Supporting Writing Conventions at Home for additional tips.
