Universal Learning Supports for Students

All Walled Lake Consolidated Schools students have access to two powerful universal learning support tools; one is for reading, the other is for writing. 

Don Johnston Snap&Read and Co:Writer

Snap&Read and Co:Writer offers a range of powerful support tools to help students gain confidence with reading, writing, studying and research. Using a tools like Snap&Read and Co:Writer can provide learning support for all (called  "universal support").  Students can choose which tools and features to use based on their own needs. 

  • Snap & Read's text reader, dynamic text leveler, translator, and study tools support reading in all content areas.
  • Co:Writer's word prediction, speech to text, and vocabulary expansion tools support writing in all content areas.

Both are Chrome extensions.

About Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Universal design for learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how humans learn. UDL guides the design of instructional goals, assessments, methods, and materials that can be customized and adjusted to meet individual needs. Universal Design for Learning is a way to build in support systems during the lesson planning process.
