Open Enrollment Clinic

MESSA, in partnership with Walled Lake Schools, will be hosting an Open Enrollment Clinic:

Date:  Wednesday, November 13, 2019
Time: 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location:  Educational Services Center (ESC) - Computer Lab

This Clinic will include information on the available PAKs with MESSA, as well as assistance walking through the Open Enrollment process in the MESSA Benefits Website.

Also, a computer will be available in the ESC outside of the Benefits Office throughout the Open Enrollment period to enroll in your benefits or to make changes to your current dependents.

Your Open Enrollment Checklist

Whether you are electing benefits for the first time, making changes to your elections, or you are not making any changes at all, Open Enrollment is the perfect time to review all of your information to ensure that it is up-to-date and correct. This checklist provides resources for important items to consider during the Open Enrollment period.

Review the Benefits Open Enrollment Information

Information about the 2020 Benefits Open Enrollment period is shared through emails from the Benefits Coordinator and MESSA as well as on the Benefits website.

It is important that you review all of your benefits information, elect your benefits, or make changes to your benefits during the Open Enrollment period.

Remember: Open Enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes to the benefits that you have elected unless you experience a qualifying life event.

If you DO NOT want to make changes to your benefits elections:

No action is necessary! All of your current benefits elections will remain the same through December 31, 2020. Unless you experience a qualifying life eventyou will not be able to make changes to your benefits until the next Open Enrollment period. 

Log In to MyMESSA During the Open Enrollment Period

Open Enrollment elections are made online through the Online Benefits Website found through your MyMessa account.  A helpful user guide can be found here.

Login at Messa.org and select MyMESSA (or click the link above) navigating to the “Online Benefits Website” link in the box on the left side of the screen.

Select the "Start Your Enrollment" found on the home page.

If you have any questions, are having trouble logging into the website or you cannot reset your messa.org password, please contact MESSA Member Services at 800.336.0013.

 

Add or Update Information for Your Dependents/Beneficiaries

Open Enrollment is a great opportunity to provide dependent Social Security Numbers (SSNs) if they are not currently on file with MESSA, or with Walled Lake Schools, to maintain compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Note: social security numbers are required (if applicable) for dependents covered under medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Once you begin navigating through the Open Enrollment section in MESSA's Online Benefit Website, you will be taken to a screen that lists your dependents. If an individual needs to be added, select the Add Dependents button. If a person needs to be updated, select the Edit> link under their information and update accordingly. If an individual needs to be removed, contact the Benefits Office for assistance by emailing DonnaMcVay@wlcsd.org.

After completing your medical, dental, vision and life elections you will be taken to a screen where providing and/or updating your beneficiaries is allowed.

You will be required to designate at least one primary beneficiary information when you have life insurance.

  • Dependents will automatically appear for you to designate, however, you may also click “Add New Beneficiary” if you’d like to designate someone else.
  • Primary beneficiaries are required, secondary (contingent) beneficiaries are not required.
  • The percentage total must equal 100%.

Enroll or Make Changes to Your Benefits Elections

To review your current benefits,  While in the MESSA Online Benefits Website, hover over the “My Benefits” tab at the top of the page and click “Current Benefits”.

If you DO want to make changes to your benefits elections:

Click on the orange button, "Make Open Enrollment Elections" at the top of the page.

Following the steps outlined here.

Once confirmed,  you can print a copy of your confirmation statement for your records.

It is recommended that you print this confirmation statement if you have made changes to your elections.

If you DO NOT want to make changes to your benefits elections:

No action is necessary! All of your current benefits elections will remain the same through December 31, 2020. Unless you experience a qualifying life eventyou will not be able to make changes to your benefits until the next Open Enrollment period.
