Lowe's Yurt

On October 11, 2005 the Walled Lake Outdoor Education Center was joined by members of Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Commerce Township for the Grand Opening of the Lowe's Yurt. A yurt is a semi-permanent structure which was used by the Mongolian Nomads. It is the Asian version of a tepee. The Lowe's Yurt is 30 feet in diameter which is built on a 36x50 foot deck and can hold up to 50 people at one time. Lowe's donated $25,000 to the WLOEC to purchase and build a Yurt as part of its Charitable and Educational Foundation. During the spring of 2005, the Walled Lake Schools' Maintenance Crew cleared the land, built the deck and raised the Yurt. The Yurt can be used for all types of groups who wish to have a unique meeting place that is quiet and convenient.

If you are interested in renting the Yurt for your group please call the Outdoor Center at 248-956-5120.
