District Champions

WLC, WLW Equestrian teams advance to Regionals

The Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western Equestrian teams added some new hardware to their trophy cases over the weekend.

The Vikings took home the District 1 – Division C Championship. It’s their 2nd-straight and 5th District title in the last 7 years.

“Through this season we have had our ups and downs, but every girl has been able to make this year a positive experience and contribute to us winning the District Title,” said Vikings senior Lauren Willis. “My teammates are like sisters to me and I wouldn't have it any other way".

Walled Lake Western was named Reserved Champions. The Warriors took 2nd place in their division ahead of West Bloomfield and Novi.

“We’re going to Regionals for the second year in a row, but this year is more significant to us,” explained Western head coach Doug Heerema. “I’m very proud of our team’s accomplishments and perseverance. One rider had a horse problem at 5 a.m. on the day of the last meet, and could not ride. The rest of the team stepped up to fill the void and ended up delivering us another trip to Regionals.”

Central and Western will compete in the same Division at the Regional Championships, which is scheduled for September 30th through October 2nd at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds in Corunna.
