District Update

Dear WLCSD Parents:

Join us for the 22nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration which will take place virtually on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, beginning at 6 p.m.  The theme this year is "I Matter Because...I Belong Because." You will be able to view the program via the District website where it will remain for on-demand access.  The virtual MLK Jr. Day Celebration will include student presentations, musical performances, keynote speakers, recognition of this year’s Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award recipients and more. Watch the 20-21 MLK event promo.

We are excited to be returning to Limited In-Person Learning for our middle and high schools beginning Wednesday, Jan. 20. Please see the detailed information below.

  • Asynchronous Day for Middle and High School, Tuesday, Jan. 19:  second semester begins for our secondary students on Tuesday, Jan. 19 with new schedules and new classes. Students should look for their teachers’ Google Classroom invites between 7:15 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning.  Students should ensure that they log onto each of their teacher’s Google Classrooms, check out the “Welcome Message” and look over any important course information that is posted.  There is no formal attendance taken on this asynchronous school day.   AB Schedule   Bell Time Schedule
  • Class Schedules:  Middle School class schedules will be available on Skyward by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15.  High School class schedules will be available on Skyward by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18.
  • Ready for Secondary Return-technology update:  students who are returning to limited in-person instruction this week should make sure that they have the following technology with them on the days they come to school:
  1. A device with a keyboard, video camera, headphone jack and a set of headphones/earbuds with a built in microphone.  Wireless earbuds also work well.
  2. For students with a smart phone, please ensure you disconnect from the school WiFi when you are in the building.
  3. Chromebook Distribution: At the WLCSD District Office, 850 Ladd Road, Bldg. D, Room 900, Tuesday and Thursdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Secondary Bus Routes have been posted to the WLCSD website.
  • Middle School Athletics Returns with intramural offerings!
  • Special NOTE:  On Tuesday, Jan. 19, between 4:30 and 5 p.m. the WLCSD network services including Skyward Family Access, Email and Internet, will be unavailable. We are completing necessary system maintenance.
  • Quarantine Timing: Based on the recommendation of the CDC and Oakland County Health Dept., we are adjusting the quarantine time for people who have been exposed (close contact) to COVID-19 to 10 days, provided they do not exhibit any symptoms during the first 10 days after exposure. It was formerly 14 days.   Updated FAQ grades 6 - 12      Updated FAQ grades k – 5 and Special Services
  • Special Note about Staff Vaccinations: Unfortunately, there is not a clear process or timeframe from the Oakland County Health Department about our staff receiving vaccinations. That being said, some of our staff have secured appointments to get COVID-19 vaccinations. Since many of the appointments are during the day, principals may be communicating with parents an asynchronous day, on an unforeseen day. As a District, we want to ensure that everyone is able to do their part to stop this virus, should they choose to receive the vaccine.  This means that we are being asked to find a way to support staff that were only able to get an appointment during the school day while continuing to manage the difficulties that we have had filling sub positions for in person classrooms. To achieve this, we will provide an asynchronous instructional day (i.e. learning at home through Google Classroom) if a teacher needs to be absent to receive the vaccine.  We understand this may be challenging for parents, however, we plan to give as much notice as possible when this may occur. If this changes, we will communicate any changes. Building principals will be communicating about this in the near future.
