Welcome to Oakley Park Elementary

Principal's Message

Welcome to Oakley Park Elementary!

As principal of Oakley Park, it is my pleasure to welcome you and it is my honor to serve our outstanding school community! I hope that you will be able to utilize this website to learn more about our school community including upcoming events and to connect with staff members.

Oakley Park is known for being a warm, welcoming school community with a very strong sense of family. There is a long standing tradition of academic excellence in an environment where students feel safe and cared for by our entire staff.  We truly honor the phrase “every child, every day” as we guide our students growth socially, emotionally and academically.

Our purpose statement is “to ensure that all students reach high levels of achievement.”  To achieve this students must feel safe, valued, respected and cared for.   Our staff is dedicated to our purpose statements and the achievement goes far beyond academics or grades. We want students to achieve as 21st century problem-solvers who have a positive work ethic and will persevere when the going gets tough. We want our students to achieve civically, as caring, contributing members of their family and community. The core values of our school community are Respect, Responsibility and Safety.  These values are visible in the daily work and interaction of our staff and students.  Our highly trained and dedicated educational team works diligently to ensure the academic, social and emotional needs of each student are met daily. We work in collaboration to service grades Kindergarten through 5th grade as well as 4 self-contained ASD classrooms.

Academically, students participate in learning structures such as Reader’s, Writer’s, and Math Workshop. The structure of workshop allows for explicit instruction, time for exploration and/or independent practice, and sharing/reflection. Leveled texts, rich picture books, co-created anchor charts, and rigorous units of study are used to deliver literacy instruction. For math, our district uses Everyday Math 4 as our math curriculum. In addition to content skills, performance tasks are used to develop and support the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice (SMPs).

Our Parent-Teacher Association ( PTA) is a phenomenal asset to our school community.  Raising over $20,000 annually through our fall raffle, this organization is dedicated to ensuring every dollar raised is spent to enhance the overall school experience for all students. A wonderful tradition was initiated several years ago when we took our first all school field trip.  This annual event is a favorite for students, parents and staff.

Again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Oakley Park Elementary. I have been fortunate to be a part of Walled Lake Schools for the past 28 years and I am blessed to begin my twelfth year as principal. On behalf of the entire educational team at Oakley Park Elementary, we are honored to work with your family.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kristin Froning, Ed. S.
